Monkey Junk at 2009 Sounds of Downtown!
Arts Carleton Place's annual fundraiser, co-sponsored by the BIA for the second year, takes place on Saturday, September 12 features Canada's hottest blues and roots band. The main concert headliner at the Town Hall Auditorium is Monkey Junk!
In October 2008, Monkey Junk won a local contest to represent Ottawa at the International Blues Challenge in Memphis, TN in February 2009. They placed third out of 100 bands from around the world. In Canada the band was nominated for a 2008 Maple Blues award as New Artist of the Year.
The musicians are Tony D on guitar, slide guitar and vocals, Steve Marriner on vocals, guitar, baritone guitar and harmonica and Matt Sobb on drums, percussion and background vocals. Steve won the 2008 Maple Blues Award for harmonica player of the year.
Money Junk perform the blues with the influence of traditional and legendary tunes. With over fifty years of combined experience playing the blues, this will be an unforgettable concert. Their latest CD, Tiger in Your Tank, was released in April 2009.
This year, the main concert will start at 9 p.m. instead of 10 p.m. Organizers have heard from passport holders that they would like to be able to still partake in the musical festivities at other locations after the main show. Thus, the time change.
Passports, $25 each, which includes the concert, will go on sale on Saturday, August 1 at the Bridge Street Bazaar, 10 a.m. - 4 p.m. in Carleton Place. A $15 passport will be available for all locations except the main concert. Look for the Arts Carleton Place red tents. Buy your passports early - they sell out every year! Stay tuned for further info on other performers and locations at Sounds of Downtown.
