Saturday Night Music... Live at the Gate!
There's more music happening at St. James Gate Pub in Carleton Place. Stan and Francine Clarke, owners of the pub, noticed that there was an entertainment gap for a music venue on a Saturday evening. The town has the regular bars that draw a younger crowd, but something was missing. An evening of acoustic music catering more to a listening audience in an intimate setting seemed to fit the bill. Opening night for this new venture, entitled "Live At The Gate", is Saturday, February 21 at 8PM featuring Kirk and Curtis Armstrong. Kirk is a well-known local performer and a member of Arts Carleton Place, who has just released a new CD entitled Island. February 28 will feature two acts: Joe Chalmers with original folk/roots music and Lisa Kopil with an eclectic mix of cover tunes.
The Clarkes are keen to support and promote local musicians and performers. Artists will be booked for one or two sets every Saturday. CDs will be for sale at the venue. This is not an open mic night setting. So all you musicians out there - drop in and check out The Gate! Kerron Lamb, an accomplished musician, is co-ordinating the booking schedule. She can be reached at lambk2001@yahoo.com or 256-7914.
There will even be a special menu, the "5 and dime", designed for the evening. All the tasty items will be $5 or $10. Cute, eh?
Mark your calendars for the Saturday the 21st and 28th, book a table with your friends and enjoy the music! And don't forget that Thursday nights from 6-9PM are jazz nights with the Peter Brown Duo - now into their third year of performing at The Gate.
St. James Gate Pub is located at 111 Bridge Street in Carleton Place (257-7530).
