Welcome to our profile ! The Town Singers is a four-part, non-auditioned community choir based in Carleton Place. Founded in 2007 by Carleton Place resident Gloria Baker, the choir has grown from a dozen people getting together in a member's living room to a 55-member group. We have been fortunate to have had local music teacher and singer Kristine MacLaren as Director since our inception. The accompanist is Peter Brown, with Margo Smith as back-up accompanist. The current President is Richard Church.

The choir's objectives are to: 1) foster the love of singing in a mixed-group environment, 2) promote a strong community-based choir identity, 3) provide opportunities to demonstrate and enhance individual vocal skills in solo, small-group and ensemble settings, 4) encourage community participation through staging of concerts and performances at community events and 5) entertain the community.

The Town Singers' repertoire is still evolving and has included popular and folk music, Broadway tunes, Christmas songs, jazz standards, sacred music and international music. We normally perform two concerts per year, one in December and one in June, and have also performed at local events such as the Carleton Place and District Memorial Hospital Foundation Tree Lighting Ceremony and the Chamber of Commerce Santa Claus Parade.

The choir rehearses Tuesday evenings from 7 to 9 pm, September to December and February to June, at St. Andrew's Presbyterian Church. The current session fee is $30. New members are most welcome.
