Arts Carleton Place (artscarletonplace.com)

I was born in Moncton, New Brunswick, son of an Acadian father and an Anglophone mother. We moved to Montreal later and I attended school in the suburb of Verdun. I remember always drawing cartoon characters like Donald Duck, Mickey Mouse, etc. at an early age. In the early 1950's, I was hospitalized in Ste. Agathe des Monts sanatorium. While there I was formally introduced to oil painting and charcoal sketching under the tutelage of the late Brodie Shearer.

It wasn't until after retiring from the Public Service that I had the time to once again become interested in painting. At the time my wife and I lived in Aylmer, Quebec and I began to take lessons from a local artist - Marie-France Hetu. I also took lessons from Eliza Griffiths at the Ottawa School of Art. I was invited to to join the Aylmer Arts Council in the mid 1990's and participated in several of their art exhibitions. I've also taken some courses in figure and portrait drawing.

My main interests in painting are landscapes, seascapes, old buildings such as mills, churches, log cabins, etc, and railroad scenes. I've recently moved to Carleton Place area (Ashton) and of course I'm fascinated by the large number of log houses and barns just waiting to be put on canvas before they disappear.

I've done a number of commissions for paintings of cottages, as well as a painting of the Aylmer United Church as a gift to a visiting Minister from England. Some of my art is displayed in doctors and government offices.

My medium is Acrylic.
