Arts Carleton Place (artscarletonplace.com)

A Toronto Native, I have lived in Carleton Place now for 25 years. I have owned a camera for as long as I can remember. From my first Polaroid Instamatic (still some of my favourite shots) to my new Digital SLR, and so many in-between.

A Photography professor once told me that it is not about the equipment or technology at all, it's all about the eye and composition. Being a purist at heart, making the leap from Old School film to Digital was a huge step but technology won in the end and economically was a good decision - no more processing. I do miss working in the darkroom doing my own developing, but can now spend that precious time out shooting. So along with my old camera, I have also abandoned (for now) black and white and find myself constantly chasing the light and color. I have maintained my purist status by not using any technology to enhance or Photo Shop my shots ever (even though sometimes I've been urged to). Although I've had technical training in Media Arts and Photography at Sheridan College, I maintain that my camera is just an extension of myself and believe that any creative process is intuitive and intrinsic. Fortunately, photography is in my blood and genes. My eye is drawn to color and light in nature, but primarily the unusual colors of man-made objects and the contrast that they have to nature itself. I have entered and won a few amateur photo contests and in turn and have had my work published in several magazines. My goal is to now pursue photo art full time and am extremely interested in film and am currently working on a documentary.
