The Database - All Artists

Wife, mother and happily a new great grandmother. I am a self taught artist. Residing in the Ottawa Valley. My interest in painting started at the age of 50, I decided to mid life my way into painting. Painting in both oils and acrylics, finding a passion that is proving to be unmatched to any other type of craft I have done before. As my paintings develop into a work of art, it seems to come alive, through a sparkle of an eye, colour of a sunset or the rolling of a wave, the art pops to life. Landscapes, I am leaning towards although I have done some portraits and many different animals and have been very successful. (continue reading...)
My photographic background spans 20+ years, including the past 4 years as a professional photographer. I studied photojournalism in London England and spent a year hiding behind lamp-posts in the rain, dodging pigeons and trying to snag that perfect picture of London bedlam. Then I discovered studio portraits. Turns out it doesn' t rain in a portrait studio. Even better, I don' t have to hide behind a lamp-post (which is good, as I don't really fit). Craig Angus, glass and tile artist, is driven by the power of imagination, the possibilities of mixing mediums, the use of line, texture and colour and, most importantly, the capacity of art to tell stories, teach and induce feelings.

Craig has invested in his learning process for over 30 years and his work can be found around the globe. Over the past two months alone his work has been shipped to Turkey, Spain, Italy, Washington D.C., New York City, Toronto, Ottawa and, yes, Carleton Place and Almonte. (continue reading...)
Born in Pointe Claire, Quebec in 1955, Adrian studied fine art at Central Technical School in Toronto, where she graduated with highest honors. After working several years as Assistant Art Director at Harbourfront Corporation, she moved to Eastern Ontario in 1980 to begin painting professionally.

Here Adrian began exhibiting her work in juried shows, and maintained contracts as a freelance illustrator and portraitist. This included a portrait of Prime Minister Trudeau and his family, commissioned by the Young Liberal Party in 1984. (continue reading...)
When I was a child, my father used to read me entire novels at bedtime. I used to envision what the characters and scenes described in the book would look like. I had a vivid imagination and I would make up imaginary friends, stories about stuffed animals, and would create scenes with my friends. Once I entered highschool, I channeled my creativity into visual arts. I found interesting ways of shocking and challenging others through my artwork. After highschool, I went to work in a field that I didn't find very challenging or artistic, but it paid the bills. (continue reading...)
Colours clashing and blending to evolve images that create discussions and beg the viewers to interpret each piece in their own way is the hallmark of Linda Lee Blakney's works. Having always wanting to be an interior designer who plays with colours and textures seems to have driven her creativity in art.

Originally she was a devout water colourist. However, an experimental class in acrylics convinced her that mixed media was for her. (continue reading...)
I've been involved with the arts in one way or another all my life, coming out of university with a Fine Arts degree in the 80's and presently partnering with my husband at Lux Photographic Services wherein I provide design, photo restoration and other creative endeavours from concept to finished product. It is wonderfully liberating and satisfying to be in a business where I am essentially given the raw materials to work with and then have full control from start to finish - actually creating the ideas and images and then having full reign on the printing side whether it be on fine watercolour, canvas or other archival papers. (continue reading...)
Trained as a Commercial Photographer in the early seventies, Michael has worked as a professional photographer and a photography teacher since. I have been involved with photography since the age of twelve. I began to photograph seriously while still in High School, and decided to peruse a career in photography over my original choice, which was to teach history.

My main interest is documentary photography. I enjoy recording and interpreting those events in everyday life that might otherwise evade scrutiny. I am presently working on a number of self-directed projects, including a more than 10-year study of Canadian Patriotism, and a study of Canadian attitudes towards religion. (continue reading...)

Intrigued with art and writing from an early age, it wasn't until about fifteen years ago that these interests developed into necessity.

Circumstance fashioned a much more disciplined life than the one I'd led until then. It wasn't long before writing and drawing became regular, and more frequently as time went on. Having become a regular house painter after years of working an assortment of jobs, the constant interaction with paint helped effect a focus of my artistic expression through that very medium. (continue reading...)
I was born in Ottawa and raised outside of Carleton Place. I currently reside in town with my husband and daughter. I went to Algonquin for photography, but never went professional. It turned in a hobby for years. My passion was renewed last year when I bought my first digital camera. I love nature and wildlife and I want to show others what I see through the lens.

My daughter and I go out for walks whenever we can and if you see me wandering the streets, I'll probably have my camera dangling around my neck. When photographing people, I like to take candid shots, when people aren't aware they are being captured in a photo. (continue reading...)
I started playing in a Brass Band at 10. My dad took me to the band and signed me on. I didn't have any lessons except for, "try to spit something off your lip". Armed with this in-depth insight, it took me a year to become able to sit in with the band. When I went to do my Army service, I was the solo cornet player in the band and I did one of the few clever things in my life, I signed on for 6 years and bought myself out after 3. This enabled me to choose what I wanted to do in the Army, so I picked a band that was going to Hong Kong for 2 years, and off I went. (continue reading...)
Since the age of 4, Sinea Caroline Connelly has been involved in art. "While I may not physically work on my art 24 hours a day, I am always searching and finding inspiration. A classically trained violinist since 1990, I find solace in music and my audience's reaction. I believe that my work, like my music, reflects love and strength of the individual and I hope to inspire creativity in others." (continue reading...)

I studied ballet, tap, modern and stage dance techniques and was fortunate enough to participate in workshops and performances with the Royal Ballet, Phoenix Dance Company and the Northern Ballet Company. Richard Ellis has had a camera close by his hands since he was a teenager, and a paint brush since his early 20's, so his interest in the visual arts has been around for a while.

However, over most of his life until retirement the usual issues of raising a family and making a living in the High tech industry meant that he never devoted the time, energy or money in taking this interest further. (continue reading...)

I was born in Moncton, New Brunswick, son of an Acadian father and an Anglophone mother. We moved to Montreal later and I attended school in the suburb of Verdun. I remember always drawing cartoon characters like Donald Duck, Mickey Mouse, etc. at an early age. In the early 1950's, I was hospitalized in Ste. Agathe des Monts sanatorium. While there I was formally introduced to oil painting and charcoal sketching under the tutelage of the late Brodie Shearer. (continue reading...)

I have always been the creative one in my family. As a kid I was always drawing, painting, and doing crafts. Art class was the only thing I looked forward to. I grew up out west and moved to Sudbury in 1993 where I attended high school. I had no idea what to do after that. A friend of mine mentioned the Museum Studies Program at Algonquin College and I thought that was a wonderful idea. I've always had a thing for history and wanted to be a part of preserving it. I graduated from the program in 2000, but was unable to find a job in the field. I decided to put that on hold and get a 'regular/boring' job in the meantime. (continue reading...)

I grew up in a large family in Ottawa and moved to Carleton Place four years ago after raising three sons. Up until then, I could paint a straight line. I would help my sister, who is a master painter, with some of her work. I still insisted that I could not paint. She saw that I had the talent for painting on glass and continually urged me to keep painting even after I threatened to quit her class after several lessons. Well, the persistence paid off and I now live and breathe paint. It allows me to be creative and see artistic views with a different eye. (continue reading...)

I have been hooked on music since my grandfather shoved a violin at me when I was three. At age 8, formal violin lessons began.
