Posted June 23, 2009
Trained as an artist Barbara Brown has been working as an artist in health care for the past twenty years. Her formal art training took place at the Nova Scotia College of Art and Design in Halifax where she completed her BFA. Following a two year Apprenticeship with the American fiber artist Shelia Hicks, she went on to complete her Masters at the Manchester Metropolitan University, England focusing on Art in Architecture and Public Art. Thought her works as an instructor with Creative Arts Service at the Perley and Rideau Veterans' Health Care Centre she combines her background as a visual artist with her passion for gardening to offer a year round program of therapeutic gardening. In 2005 she was certified as a Registered Horticultural Therapist and now serves as an assessor with the Canadian Horticultural Therapy Association.
As an established sculptural installation artist it was a small step for Barbara to imagine and build a labyrinth. Early this year she received her Labyrinth Facilitators Certification following her training in Chartres, France in 2007. She now hosts three public labyrinth walks annually and has developed workshop experiences using the labyrinth for personal reflection and self development. Building on her experience as an artist she offers guided labyrinth walks focusing on creativity and well being.
