Mississippi Mudds - Death of a Doornail
Posted February 15, 2010
Members of the Mudds, your local community theatre, are in full rehearsal mode once more to bring two brand new productions to you in early Spring 2010.
On March 19th and 20th we present Death of a Doornail by Lee Mueller, at the Heritage Inn. Like other Mudds popular murder mystery dinner theatre productions, this one comes with an intriguing story line and a cast of quirky characters.
When a nerdy niece, an irritating ex-wife, a stuck up daughter, a ditzy mistress, and a sleazy old mobster are invited by eccentric millionaire Albert Doornail to join him in his mansion one evening, a night filled with mischief and mayhem ensues. When they arrive, Albert is nowhere to be seen. Confused and bewildered, the group proceeds to search for their host, only to find blood all over the upstairs bathroom. Now they must identify a killer and a motive with the help of a washed up police inspector who arrives from the "yard". Who murdered Al? How? And what was the motive behind the murder? The audience is invited to sift through the clues and decide whodunit.
Call the Inn at 613 257 2525 to reserve your tickets; $45 for a delicious meal and the show. Doors open at 6p.m. and the show starts at 6.30. Don't delay. These shows sell out quickly.
On April 23rd, 24th, 30th and May 1st at 7:30 with a 2 p.m. matinee on 24th at the Town Hall. Don't miss High School Reunion, The Musical, our newest musical review written by Jeannie Bright and featuring songs from the 50's and 60's. "Drop the coin right into the slot, You're gonna hear something that's really hot!" Chuck Berry's School Days as well as numbers by Eddie Cochrane, The Kinks, Neil Sedaka, Beach Boys, Dusty Springfield and many more weave together the story of three couples, Donna and Billy Ray who finally find true love; Diana and Bob who realize that memories are best left as memories; Dwayne and Sue who fall in love again. With a mixed cast of local high school students and adults, the story will visit the past with nostalgia and the present with optimism. They will make sure that like Chuck Berry, you are "Feeling the music from head to toe". Tickets are $20 for the evening shows and $15 for the matinee. They will go on sale mid March at the Chamber of Commerce Information Centre, and Arts Carleton Place Gallery and Gift Shop, 132 Coleman Street (Old RR Station) Mon - Fri 9 a.m. - 5p.m. Sat & Sun 11 a.m. - 4 p.m. Phone 613-257-2031 to reserve tickets or call Don at 613 253 1571 for more information about the show or visit www.mississippimudds.ca.

Slam Poetry is Back in Lanark County
Posted February 1, 2010
The first slam of the 2010 season takes place in Almonte, this Sunday, January 3rd at J.R.'s Downstairs Pub. It starts at 6:30pm and features the top slam team in the country from Ottawa. They call themselves The Recipe and are made up of Ian Keteku, Open Secret, Poetic Speed, Brandon Wint and Rusty Priske. They awed the crowds at the national festival and are sure to do the same in Almonte. These five poets really work as a team, and their poems are a collective poetic experience. Watching them is like watching a finely tuned instrument make beautiful music as if it beauty were a simple thing to create. Their poems are gut-wrenching and magnificently executed. Come out and experience the team that wowed the nation. $5 at the door.
Come out and slam, bring two poems under 3 minutes each to participate in the slam series. Earn a chance to compete in the finals and maybe make it on the team that represents Lanark County in the Canadian Festival of Spoken Word this October, in Ottawa.
There will be an open mic to start the night. If you have never experienced slam poetry before let this be your introduction. Don't miss your chance to see the best slam poets in the country.
Doors open at 6pm.
