Canadian Authors Association is Looking for Local Writers!
Canadian Authors Association, National Capital Region (NCR), is offering opportunities to network and support for the writing process to in Carleton Place. Once again, Reads Book Shop has generously agreed to provide meeting space for a group.
Some writers are born; most are "made" through dedicated writing, critiquing and re-writes. Writing Circles provide the support for critiquing and re-writes which otherwise can be psychologically devastating.
At regular meetings, writers bring their works-in-process to give and receive constructive feedback, and to encourage each other in the challenge of writing the next bestseller, major script, book of poetry, memoir, or whatever your chosen genre might be. The evening's agenda may also be writing exercises, revealing hidden talents or encouraging members to expand into new genres. Some writers find that their writing improves by participation in a Circle, not only through feedback but also through exposure to other writing styles. Since writing is usually done in isolation, writers often lack the networking contacts that offer this kind of support.
CAA-NCR began organizing and supporting Writers Circles over two years ago. The branch realized that writers outside the Ottawa environs can't always get to downtown meetings, so Circles have been established in Renfrew/Arnprior in addition to Ottawa Centre, Greenboro and Centrepointe, and a Poets’ Circle in the Westboro area.
Not familiar with the Canadian Authors Association?
The CAA (not to be confused with that auto one!) is Canada's national association for writers, be they professional writers, emerging writers, or writers just starting to believe they might be writers. The Association is Canada's oldest Writers group, founded in Montreal back in 1921. Some of Canada's best-known writers have been or are members of the group. CAA has a number of impressive achievements to its credit, including the improvement of copyright protection for Canadian writers, working to establish the Public Lending Right program, and the founding of the Governor General’s Literary Awards in 1936.
The Canadian Authors Association has branches across Canada, currently in Edmonton, Alberta, Montreal, Quebec, Victoria & the Islands, Vancouver and Okanagan in British Columbia. Ontario has several branches: Niagara, Toronto, Peterborough, Ottawa, Temiskaming, Waterloo-Wellington. There is also a Virtual branch, for those who wish to participate in an online group.

UNPOSED Open House
Posted September 10, 2009 under Artist Activities
UNPOSED Photography Family and Friends,
To top off summer, I hope you will join me for a celebration of UNPOSED third year in business with an open house at the studio - Sunday, September 27, from 3 to 6pm.
There will be refreshments, new photographic work on display, and activities for kids of all ages so please bring the family.
I've arranged, weather permitting, for a bouncy castle. Yes, this is primarily for the kids, but I do confess I've always wanted to try one out so I figure we'll sneak in a couple of adult jumping times throughout the afternoon ;) There will also be an UNPOSED scavenger hunt and perhaps a few other creative activities as inspiration hits in the next couple of weeks (snake charming? garden gnome carving?).
Finally come and search for the UNPOSED geocache! Bring a GPS if you have one, if not one will be available. Instructions will be available at the open house.
The UNPOSED studio is at 700 Drummond Side Road, just north of Carleton Place. A link with directions is below.
Directions
Please come out and have some fun. All are welcome and please feel free to forward this email to family and friends.
Thanks again to everyone for their friendship and support, I have met so many wonderful people through UNPOSED. I hope to see you again at the open house.
